CYBEX safety technologies
Reclining head
The CYBEX patented 3-position reclining headrest is part of our group 1/2/3 car seats and cleverly prevents the child's head from falling forward while asleep and guarantees optimal protection in the case of a side-impact.
Side-impact collisions are particularly dangerous for children. Accident data shows that these collisions occur half as frequently as head-on collisions yet cause far more serious injuries. *
The lack of space on either side of the car cannot compete with the protective function of a crumple zone, making side-impact collisions considerably more dangerous than head-on road accidents. A high-quality car seat should, therefore, be equipped with suitable protection that helps protect the child.
Our reclining headrest is a revolutionary technology that can be adjusted and safely shifts the balance point of the child's head slightly back. This prevents the child’s head from falling forward while being asleep. In case of a side-impact collision, the child's sensitive head thus remains within the safety zone of the seat, ensuring optimal protection and a more comfortable sleeping position for a safe and peaceful journey.
By developing this patented safety technology, CYBEX has succeeded in eliminating a frequent risk caused by incorrect usage, making car travel for children a little bit safer as well as more comfortable.

Impact shield
CYBEX recommends traveling in rear-facing car seats for as long as possible ideally up to the age of 4. In rear-facing position, the energy of a frontal collision is distributed evenly over the large area of the seat and the sensitive body areas of the child are perfectly protected.
But sometimes, there are reasons that require toddlers to be switched to a forward-facing car seat, for example, a smaller or two-door vehicle.
In these cases, CYBEX’ forward-facing car seats equipped with an adjustable patented impact shield are the reliable alternative to offer a high degree of protection without confining the child.
The forces of a collision are distributed over the large area of the impact shield, which significantly reduces the strain on the critical neck, shoulders, and head by 40% in comparison to a conventional forward-facing seat with harness system without ER-Tech. In this sense, the safety cushion can be pictured as an already inflated airbag. The belt does not cut into the child and the vulnerable neck and shoulder area are protected.
In tests by leading European consumer organizations, car seats with impact shields have regularly received top results.
Linear Side-impact Protection
All CYBEX car seats are fitted with a Linear Side-impact Protection System (L.S.P. System). These additional side-impact protectors absorb the impact forces early on, effectively protecting the head and upper body in a side-impact collision.
Whereas injuries caused by airbags and belts have decreased in number, side-impact collisions that are particularly dangerous for children have increased. Accident data shows that side-impact collisions occur half as frequently as head-on collisions yet cause far more serious injuries*.
The lack of space on either side of the car cannot compete with the protective function of a crumple zone, making side-impact collisions considerably more dangerous than head-on road accidents. A high-quality car seat should, therefore, be equipped with suitable protection that helps prevent injuries to the child in a side-impact collision.
Side protectors are an effective safety measure and embedded in the CYBEX safety principles.
Whether rear or forward-facing, thanks to the L.S.P. (Linear Side-impact Protection) the force of a side-impact collision is absorbed in a linear series of reactions together with the energy absorbing shell of the seat. The kinetic body energy triggered by an accident is absorbed and the head and upper body move in a safe position. Especially the child’s sensitive head and shoulder area are protectively locked inside the safety zone of the seat and the forces of an accident are taken away from the child.

Seat-to-Chassis Technology
The innovative Seat-to-Chassis technology creates a direct link between the seat and the chassis. In case of an accident, the force of an impact is transferred straight to the chassis, which simultaneously activates the safety features of the car and the seat and thereby initiates the process of distributing the force at the earliest possible stage of an accident.
